One Planet network Sustainable Tourism Programme will provide support to Pan-European tourism policy makers, companies, and other relevant stakeholders with regards to the implementation of circular economy of plastics in the tourism sector. More specifically, the Programme will provide support through its Global Tourism Plastics Initiative. It is relevant to SDGs 12 and 14. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

Sweden commits to introduce a littering fee. Producers should take responsibility for the life cycle of their products. According to the polluter pays principle, Sweden has, as a part of the implementation of the EU’s Single Use Plastic directive, implemented a littering fee for producers. The commitment is relevant to SDGs 11, 12, 14. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022

The commitment falls under the focus areas: 1, 2, 4, 9 It is relevant to the SDGs: 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 17 Partners include the EU under the SWITCH Asia Programme, Adelphi Research GmbH (Germany), Austria Recycling (Austria), STENUM Asia (India), Teri Institute of Energy and Resources (India), National Association of Small and Medium Businesses of Tajikistan, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, IFAS, IСWC, and ICSD. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

Bulgaria commits to achieving resource efficiency by applying waste management hierarchy, preventing its formation, promoting its reuse and utilization through recycling, reducing landfilling and limiting its harmful impact on environment and human health.


Actions include:


• Financing of investment measures to ensure the necessary infrastructure for treating all amounts of domestic waste generated in the country. Completion of the regional landfills for household waste.
• Urgent finalization of the reclamation process of the closed municipal landfills that do not meet the regulatory requirements.
• Promotion of modern technologies for separate collection, composting/anaerobic degradation of biodegradable waste, recycling and environmentally friendly disposal. Completing the infrastructure for recycling and waste recovery.
• Development and adoption of legislative acts and regulations.
• Preparation of a Strategy and action plan for the transition to a circular economy of the Republic of Bulgaria, for the period 2022-2027.

Azerbaijan commits to developing an action plan for circular management of plastic packaging and items, with a focus on elimination, transition to reuse models, and sustainable procurement. The commitment is relevant to SDGs 9, 12, 13, 14 and 15. Partners include the Ministry of Economy, executive authorities, and municipalities. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

Georgia commits to develop and implement the Education for Sustainable Development Georgian National Strategy and Action Plan for 2018-2022. Despite the achievements in the field of environmental education and education for sustainable development (ESD) in Georgia, further effort is needed to maximize the potential of this field in the country. The development and implementation of the National Strategy and Action Plan will ensure that ESD in Georgia provides all citizen with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary to live sustainably and foster environmentally responsible changes in society.

The commitment falls under focus area 9 of the Batumi Initiative to promote public participation, and education for sustainable development (ESD).

Implementing partners will include the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.

The commitment is relevant to SDG target 12.8.

Georgia commits to introduce resource efficient production and consumption (REPC) concept in order to promote the transition towards green economy by decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation and resource depletion. The introduction of RECP should result in higher productivity and thus competitiveness on global markets, better management of natural capital, enhanced environmental quality of life, more resilient ecosystems and economies, and new business and export opportunities. Elaboration of concrete measures, policy instruments and special raising awareness campaigns which will promote the RECP methods among small and medium enterprises are one of the priorities of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. The introduction of RECP methods will enhance the efficient use of natural resources including water, energy and materials as well as minimize the impact on environment and nature, by preventing the generation of waste and emissions including those discharged to water, air or on land. On the other hand, these methods will decrease the production costs for industry representatives.
