Switzerland commits to preserving and valorising architectural heritage, landscape quality and biodiversity in the Swiss Tourism Policy. High-quality landscapes and architectural heritage are key to making Switzerland an attractive and productive tourist destination. This requires coordination and cooperation between the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs and other sectoral policies, specifically with the Federal Office for the Environment and the Federal Office of Culture. Hence, these offices of three different Federal Departments work together to enhance knowledge-building and exchange as well as to plan and execute projects to preserve and valorise architectural heritage, landscape quality and biodiversity. There are also plans to improve measurability and monitoring. The commitment falls under focus areas 1, 3, 4, 9. It is relevant to SDGs 9, 11, 15. Partners include the Federal Office for the Environment, Federal Office of Culture and Swiss Parks. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

Sweden

Sweden commits to take actions to improve sustainable tourism in Sweden. The strategy is a national road-map for all actors involved in promoting sustainable development in the tourism industry – such as national authorities, regional and local actors, industry representatives and research. The commitment falls under focus areas 4, 7, 9. It is relevant to SDGs 8, 11, 12. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan commits to prioritize nature-based solutions in infrastructure. Within the framework of the national project "Green Kazakhstan", in order to achieve the Task of preserving the ecosystems of the country's water bodies, an inflow into Lake Balkhash of at least 12 km3/year will be planned. It is also planned to increase the volume of the Northern Aral Sea by 35% (from 20 to 27 km3). Four lakes (Kopa, Borovoe, Shchuchye and Shalkar) will be cleaned and restored. Measures have been taken to reduce the volume of fresh water intake in industry by 1.3 km. For additional accumulation of water with a volume of 1.7 km3, 9 reservoirs will be built. It is planned to increase the country's forest cover up to 5% by 2025 by planting 2 billion trees. The commitment falls under focus area 3. It is relevant to SDGs 9, 13, 14 and 15. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

Georgia

Georgia commits to strengthen environmental legal frameworks that govern infrastructure development. Elaboration of the draft law of Georgia on Biological Diversity is in the process, which will create a legal basis for the fulfilment of the obligations under the EU/Georgia Association Agreement to harmonise Georgian legislation of nature conservation with European. It should be also noted that as some issues connected to fisheries are still regulated by sub-laws, it is planned to develop a comprehensive legislative basis to ensure sustainable use of fish resources. As a first step, it is planned to develop a National Concept on Sustainable Fisheries. The above mentioned laws and the concept will facilitate the effective governance of infrastructure development. The commitment falls under focus areas 3 and 4. It is relevant to SDGs 14 and 15. Partners include SIDA and GIZ. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

Albania commits to update the National Ambient Air Quality Strategy, approved by Decision of Council of Ministers no. 594, of 10.9.2014, or draft a New Strategy and to develop a set of air quality indicators for the updated/new strategy to track implementation.


Air pollution policy can significantly contribute to achieving several of the Sustainable Development Goals, notably to: ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all; end hunger, achieve food security and promote sustainable agriculture; make cities and human settlements safe and sustainable; ensure access to sustainable and modern energy for all; and protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and halt biodiversity loss.

The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

Portugal commits to ratifying the Nagoya Protocol and developing national legislation on fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources in biological diversity conservation.

The commitment falls under focus area 2 of the Batumi Initiative to promote the internalisation of negative externalities and the sustainable use of natural capital.

The commitment is relevant to SDG 14, 15 and 17.

Belarus

Belarus commits to developing legal foundations for organic agriculture. This commitment aims to increase the volume of domestically produced organic products. The commitment is tied to the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Belarus on “Manufacturing and Circulating of Organic Products”.

The commitment falls under areas 1 and 5 of the Batumi Initiative to improve the measurement and valuation of natural capital and develop clean physical capital for sustainable production patterns.

Implementing partners include the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, interested national public governing bodies, the business community, civil society organisations and the private sector.

The commitment is relevant to SDGs 3, 8, 9, 11, 12, 15 and 16.
