Global Green Growth Forum: Matching global leaders with global solutions

Event Updates

From October 20-21, the Global Green Growth Forum will open the doors for a select group of green growth leaders and decision-makers. We will build on the momentum from the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit and look for ways to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns for generations to come. This is not only necessary, but also urgent if we are to realize the global green transition.

At the 3GF Secretariat, we believe that matching global leaders with global solutions is key to achieve actual green growth impact. We seek to ensure that sustainable and green technologies, business models, finance, practices and policies are backed by high-level decision-makers.

We work closely with governments, cities, business, finance, civil society and international organizations to promote strategic partnerships and alliances where these technologies, tools and business models can be tested and refined. And not least scaled across sectors and regions.

With this year’s theme of “Changing Production and Consumption Patterns through Transformative Action”, the 3GF addresses the three fundamental questions: How will we live our lives? Where will we live? What will we live from?

Throughout the year, we have worked with 11 strategic partnerships that may provide practical solutions to answer these questions. For instance, we will see the launch of a partnership to unlock the value of waste where a group of actors will join forces to promote solution models that can turn organic waste into bioenergy and fertilizer. Another partnership works for increased access to green energy in areas outside the national grid by testing business models which combine different technologies in a way that makes them attractive for investors. A third partnership will scale sustainable food production. You can read more about all the partnerships that will be launched or leveraged at 3GF2014 here

We will also address these three fundamental questions by engaging a critical mass of high-level stakeholders in thematic plenaries and interactive sessions. We will “Walk in the Shoes of Future Middle Class Consumers” and will tune in on the growing urban middle class when business leaders and Heads of States are “Facing the Consumer/Citizen”. We will look for ways to adopt green business models when we are “Enabling the Producer”, and we will ensure follow-up to the recently launched Compact of Mayors and discuss the critical role cities play as drivers of green growth when we zoom in on “Transforming our Cities”. Finally, we will highlight the need to “Transform our Economic Growth Paths” taking the recommendations from the New Climate Economy report into account.

With the increasing global attention and support for realizing the green transition, 3GF is excited to build on this great momentum at our high-level summit in Copenhagen on 20-21 October 2014.

We look forward to welcoming some of the world’s green growth frontrunners and leaders next week and to continue our close cooperation with key actors on the green agenda, including partners who are also engaged at the Green Growth Knowledge Platform.
