Case Study: Integration of Renewable-Based Generation in Sri Lanka

Organisation:
Low Emission Development Strategies Global Partnership (LEDS GP)

More countries are engaging in large-scale renewable energy deployment to meet ambitious low-emission and sustainable development goals. The increased penetration levels of renewable energy-based generation bring operational and technical challenges, particularly for network stability and security of power systems. However, such challenges can be overcome through a detailed understanding of the power system characteristics and required enhancements.

This case study explores how the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) - a state-owned power utility of Sri Lanka - is helping the country meet its renewable energy targets and ensure a more reliable transition towards a greener future.
