The case study details France's commitment to integrating circular economy practices into its logistics and postal sectors, highlighting the operations of La Poste Group as a publicly owned and mission-driven company.

France has been a leader in global environmental initiatives, exemplified by its pivotal role in the 2015 Paris Agreement. The French Circular Economy Roadmap, which includes 50 measures aimed at achieving a 100 per cent circular economy, emphasizes the importance of better consumption, better waste management, and stakeholder engagement—three areas directly relevant to the postal and logistics sectors. The growth of these sectors, driven by the boom in e-commerce and parcel delivery, underscores their crucial role in the national transition towards a circular economy. The infrastructure supporting these sectors is evolving to meet dynamic market demands, positioning it as a key component in realizing France's sustainability goals.

La Poste Group exemplifies the integration of circular economy principles into its operations. By adopting an integrated circularity approach, La Poste Group is transforming its processes with measures to reuse or recycle of 75 per cent of its waste and repurpose 100 per cent of its reusable IT equipment by 2025, for example. The group's efforts extend beyond internal operations to influence the wider value chain and diversifying their services to create new revenue streams. For example, by offering advice to e-retailer customers on optimizing package designs and supporting the development of a methodology to measure resource efficiency. These pioneering efforts not only demonstrate the feasibility of circular economy models within logistics and postal services but also set a benchmark for other sectors to follow, illustrating the scalability and replicability of such practices globally.
