
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is organizing a course under the United Nations Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) to provide guidance to policymakers and practitioners on green industrial transformation and provide an up-to-date overview of the debate on green industrial policy.
The course aims to build national capacities and raise awareness about the importance and feasibility of applying green industry approaches and tools in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. More specifically, the course aims to:
- Provide participants with an understanding of green industrial policy as a tool for accelerating a green economic transformation
- Share success stories of tackling the COVID-19 pandemic and rebounding industries from a green recovery perspective
- Discuss how industries, including SMEs, can successfully overcome key challenges that prevent them from adopting green industry-related products and services
- Gain an understanding of the interlinkages between green industry, green jobs and a just transition
Course structure
The course will be organized in two parts:
Part 1: Self-paced Online Course on Green Industrial Policy: Sustainable Economic Transformation and Competitiveness
The deadline to complete the self-paced online course is 10 July 2022.
Part 2: Advanced Instructor-led Online Course on Green Industry
The instructor-led course will take place on 26-29 July 2022.
Course content
This course will cover the following topics:
- Green industrial development (industrial deep carbonization, circular economy, digitalization)
- Responses to global food crisis and supply disruption
- Green recovery and building resilience for Industries and SMEs
- I-GO (Integrated Greening Operation) tools
- Green jobs and just transitions
- Finance and investment for green industrial development
- A virtual tour to an industrial site
Eligibility and applications
Target audience:
- Young to mid-level policymakers, university faculty, PhD students, researchers, and trainers from public or private training institutes
- Members of NGOs and SMEs working on green industry applications
Pre-requisites for joining the advanced instructor-led online course:
- Completion of the self-paced online certificate course on green industrial policy. Obtaining a certificate from the self-paced course will act as one of the key criteria to be eligible for Part 2 of the course.
Language requirements:
- The language of instruction is English. All applicants have to demonstrate a reasonable command of spoken and written English to be able to participate actively in discussions at workshops.

Course fee and fellowships
Participation in the course is free-of-charge; however, only a limited number of slots are available for the advanced course (Part 2). Each application will be reviewed against the required eligibility. Successful candidates will be notified via email by the middle of July 2022.
