This course provides an overview of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and their links to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It introduces each convention’s objectives, key actors, legal provisions and implementation mechanisms.
The course covers national reporting under the Basel and Stockholm Conventions, National Implementation Plans under the Stockholm Convention, and the Prior Informed Consent procedure under the Rotterdam Convention. It also explains how the conventions contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to the sound management of chemicals and wastes.
The course is designed primarily for government officials and national focal points, but is also open to other stakeholders interested in the conventions and their contribution to sustainable development.
