In recent decades there has been increasing global concern about the sustainability of the use of fossil fuels and nuclear power, which has led to increased interest in more sustainable renewable energy sources. These ‘renewables’ have been utilised for centuries, in water mills, windmills and wood stoves. But in recent years, technology has been developed to utilise these natural power sources on a much larger scale. This course studies renewable energy using the four Greek elements as the weekly themes:
- Earth (Earth’s renewable energy sources, most of which are derived from power delivered by the Sun)
- Air (wind power)
- Fire (direct power of the Sun)
- Water (hydropower)
