This course provides a summary of guidance documents to support the National Implementation Plan (NIP) priority setting and financing under the Stockholm Convention, covering legal, financial and strategic aspects of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) management.
The course is composed of four key sections:
- LIRA guidance
- NIP priority-setting
- Calculating action plan costs for POPs
- Fundraising for NIP implementation
The course addresses the critical challenge of translating environmental commitments into practical and financially sustainable strategies. It presents policy frameworks, cost assessment methodologies and fundraising mechanisms, including national and international funding opportunities and public-private partnerships. By integrating technical guidance with financial planning, this comprehensive approach ensures stakeholders gain the expertise needed to develop and implement effective and financially viable NIPs.

As part of the GEF-funded and UNEP-led “Global Development, Review and Update of NIPs under the Stockholm Convention on POPs” project, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is executing Component 4, focused on disseminating information, managing knowledge and coordinating with the Stockholm Convention Secretariat to provide accessible, integrated tools and resources for all Parties.
