On 28 April, the World Trade Organization (WTO) will be hosting the event "20 years of building pathways to sustainable development" to mark the organization's 20th anniversary. The event will take place in the WTO Headquarters (Room W).
Mr Achim Steiner, UNEP Executive Director, and WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo will participate in the event's joint UNEP-WTO opening session (10.30-11.15). This will be followed by high level and expert panels (see the agenda here).
The event seeks to take stock of discussions on trade and the environment since the establishment of the WTO, and will look back at the role of the global trade and environment regimes in helping countries achieve sustainable development. It will also provide an opportunity to explore how WTO jurisprudence on trade and environment has evolved during the past two decades.
