6th ITD Global Conference: Tax and the Environment

TO
Location :
Paris, France

This year’s conference to be held in Paris, France from 1-3 July 2015, will focus on Tax and the Environment, an issue of growing importance and one which we anticipate will be both relevant and timely in the lead up to the COP21 meeting in November 2015.

Environmental policy objectives, including reduction of the expected costs of climate change, curbing health damage from pollution, and improving the quality of the environment, rank high on policy agendas.  Taxes are one among several policy instruments to help attain these objectives.

The conference will explore what steps can be taken to harness the power of tax policy and tax administration for delivering cost-effective environmental protection and sustainability, including fiscal sustainability.  It will address the potential and the limitations of taxation to tackle major environmental challenges, including but not limited to climate change, covering sectors where environmental policy needs are most pressing.  The focus is on policy in practice, in particular sharing country experiences on tax administration, distributional concerns, and impacts on competitiveness.

The conference is hosted by the The International Tax Dialogue (ITD). The OECD is responsible for conference logistics. The ITD is a joint initiative of the European Commission (EC), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), World Bank Group (WBG) and Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT).
