The Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) and the The Graduate Institute Geneva - Centre for International Environmental Studies are hosting an event on 'Clean energy subsidies and the global trading system". The event will be held in Geneva on 15 April 2016 from 12:30-14:00 Auditorium Ivan Pictet (A1B) at House of Peace.
A light lunch will be provided before the event from 12 to 12:30
Many governments provide direct subsidies to clean energy to advance green technology production and diffusion. However, such subsidies are beginning to raise suspicions within the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which places restrictions on industrial policies that distort trade. This event will draw on recent interdisciplinary research to highlight new insights on the strategic use of clean energy subsidies with consideration to the international trade regime.
This policy briefing will include a lecture by Carolyn Fischer (Senior Fellow, Resources for the Future and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow, European Commission), followed by inputs from Ronald Steenblik (Special Counsellor, Fossil-Fuel Subsidy Reform, OECD) and Peter Wooders (Group Director, Energy, IISD) and a Q&A session.
This event will take place at Auditorium Ivan Pictet (A1B) at Maison de la Paix, Geneva, Switzerland.
