On 6-18 November 2022, Egypt is hosting the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, with a view to building on previous COP successes. The meeting will be an opportunity for all stakeholders to rise to the occasion and tackle effectively the global challenge of climate change facilitated by Egypt on the African continent.

The incoming Egyptian COP27 Presidency has identified a range of topics focused on enhancing implementation and raising ambition on a broad range of issues related to climate change. Egypt has further designated several thematic days for focused discussions, including through side events, panel discussions, roundtables and other interactive formats to deliberate on and share with the wider audience

Accelerating Circularity as a Holistic Response to the Triple Planetary Crisis: The Economic Case

  • On 9 November 2022 (11:30-13:00 EET), Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), PAGEUNEPUNIDOUNITARESCWAUNECEUN-OHRLLS will organize a high-level side event on the transition to a circular economy at COP27. By bringing together representatives of governments, private sector, think tanks and youth, this event will discuss strategies to accelerate the global shift towards a circular economy in the context of mounting debt levels and a food and energy breakdown that threatens to derail progress towards sustainable development, particularly for developing countries. Financing Nature for Resilient Communities and Economies

  • On 16 November 2022 (17:00-18:30 CET), Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), together with its partners, AfDBWorld Bank Group, Islamic Development Bank, WWF and World Resources Institute, will host a side event at COP27 MDB Pavilion, on financing and scaling up nature action. The event will contribute to accelerating investment in nature action in Africa by showcasing different financing options and nature-based solutions (NbS) projects and launching key studies around NbS and Africa's natural resources sectors.
