The GEF ISLANDS Programme launch took place on 7 June, 18:15 pm (CEST) at Room C, CIGC, Geneva, Switzerland and online.
The launch of the GEF-funded Implementing Sustainable Low and Non-chemical Development in Small Island Developing States (ISLANDS) took place in the side-lines of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) Convention meeting of the conference of the parties. The high-level launch was key-noted by Rolph Payet, Executive Secretary of the BRS Conventions and GEF CEO Carlos Manuel Rodriguez. The Launch included a high-level panel with representatives from private sector co-finance partners including Swire Shipping, Carnival Cruise and Iberostar. The Launch event was followed by a cocktail reception.
ISLANDS supports the following 33 SIDS: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cabo Verde, Cook Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Kiribati, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Samoa, São Tomé and Príncipe, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, Suriname, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Union of Comoros, and Vanuatu.
