Organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Green Economy Week 2019 is being held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on 11-17 November 2019, in cooperation with the German development agency GIZ and the UN’s Partnership Action for Green Economy (PAGE).
The main focus of the event is to facilitate dialogue among all stakeholders in promoting the principles of the green economy and demonstrating the benefits and opportunities for the development of regions throughout Kyrgyzstan. The government is working to promote "green" initiatives to improve quality of life, social justice and the efficient use of resources.
In 2015, the Kyrgyz government adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and in May 2016 joined the UN’s Global Partnership for Action in Green Economy (PAGE). Recognizing the importance of moving towards a “greener” economy, the country’s parliament developed and approved the concept “Kyrgyzstan – a country of green economy” in June 2018. In addition, the President’s Office approved in November 2018 the National Development Strategy for 2018-2040, which envisions the development of a competitive economy with a focus on the application of innovative and environmentally friendly technologies.
Within the framework of the Green Economy Development Programme (2019-2023), priority sectors have been identified through which, as a matter of priority, is expected to ensure the country’s transition to "green" development.
