Grow Green Girl Workshop

TO
Location :
Bangkok, Thailand

The UN Environment Programme is hosting the Grow Green Girl workshop on 8-11 December 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand for female founders of green startups.

Entrepreneurship has become a dynamic force for green growth in Asia. To accelerate this trend, governments are developing innovation policies and funds, multilateral organizations are launching entrepreneurship centers and the private sector is ready to invest. But while entrepreneurship opens up opportunity for new players and new solutions, gender imbalances are amplified in the entrepreneurship space.

The workshop will focus on female perspectives on access to finance, business practices and skills development, including how to use comedic storytelling to connect with investors, the public and potential partners. In addition, the Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) will hold a policy dialogue on barriers to finance for female founders, and the award-winning team at Mythos Lab will provide training on comedic storytelling.

Participants will also be invited to appear in a public service announcement about access to finance by female founders. Although this is not obligatory, it is a great opportunity to be part of the public conversation.

Please register for the workshop here.

Program

The Grow Green Girl Workshop Programme

  1. Entrepreneurship stream

  • Day 1 Sunday 8 December: Enter the dragon’s den

A dragon’s den is a colloquial term for pitching to potential investors. Instead of real investors, the participants will pitch to each other in small groups.  This activity will serve as an ice breaker so that they can get to know about each other’s startups, as well as good experience being on the other side of a dragon’s den - putting themselves in the shoes of an investor. A select group of policy makers and private sector partners will join the panels

  1. Policy dialogue

  • Day 2 Monday 9 December: morning: Policy dialogue

During this session, policy makers and entrepreneurs will hold a policy dialogue to discuss two simple questions: (1) what can policy makers do to mainstream gender in policies that stimulate green growth innovation? (2) What do policy makers and entrepreneurs specifically want to see to mainstream gender into UN Environment’s entrepreneurship programs.

  1. How comedic storytelling can help grow your sustainable business

Mythos Labs will teach female entrepreneurs how to harness the power of effective storytelling to improve their fundraising, social media marketing and press relations.

  • Day 2 Monday 9 December: Afternoon

The first part of this component will train entrepreneurs about the power of storytelling and how entertaining stories can change mindsets and influence behaviour.  Participants will learn about elements of a compelling story, including narrative structure, character development and emotional arcs.

  • Day 3 Tuesday 10 December

The second part will review distinct storylines that resonate with (1) Investors (Portraying your venture as a compelling but incomplete story; Building a sense of urgency in your company’s narrative; mitigating gender bias when fundraising), (2) Customers (Identifying the emotional need satisfied by your product; creating an emotional arc around that), (3) Press (Shaping your narrative, “Steering” interview away from interviewer biases/agendas, Why discretion is key and not all publicity is good publicity).

  • Day 4 Wednesday 11 December

Using what they learned in Day 1, participants will be asked to help ideate, and participate in, a short video that highlights their stories and draws attention to the unique challenges faced by women entrepreneurs.
