Climate, food, population, health: How do we find solutions to the world's biggest challenges?
Solving Grand Challenges, such as climate change, global health or population growth, will require large-scale initiatives to foster technological innovation and diffusion.
Last year governments committed themselves to achieving two global agreements; the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which led to the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the UNFCCC Paris Agreement, which includes specific national commitments for tackling climate change. These international commitments will shape global and national agendas for the coming decades and will require unprecedented levels of technological innovation and diffusion. Other global challenges will require similar levels of effort and response. The burgeoning human population (moving toward ten or twelve billion individuals in the coming century), cyber-security, and global health will all require dedicated government action to promote technological innovation and diffusion.
This public forum will present the findings of an expert working group on the mechanisms and policies required for developing potential solutions to some of the world’s most challenging problems. The forum will include an open discussion and debate among the participants.
The meeting is organized jointly by the Centre for International Environmental Studies at the Graduate Institute and the Green Growth Knowledge Platform, in partnership with EPFL, ETH Zurich and the London School of Economics.
