The Regional Office of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia launch a contest aimed at university students with innovative ideas in favor of sustainable lifestyles.
In a virtual event, representatives of both organizations will announce the bases of the contest and will address the importance of sustainability in daily life, as well as the need to innovate to facilitate clean options for transportation, consumption, finance or housing, among others.
The contest will accept applications from undergraduate and graduate students from Latin America. The finalist teams will be advised by the Entrepreneurship Center of the Universidad de los Andes to improve product design and consumer information on the selected business ideas, and the three winning teams will receive funds and advice to develop their ideas.
The competition is launched this year with a regional focus after its execution in Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia, where three teams were awarded in 2020.
The contest is organized with the support of the UNEP project "Promote sustainable consumption in Latin America with better information and product design", funded by the European Union, and the Global Opportunities Initiative for the SDGs (GO4SDGs), funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany.
