235 Montgomery St., Suite 1300, San Francisco, USA
On 10 September 2018 (3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, PDT), Climate Works Foundation and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) are hosting Mobilizing Clean Energy Finance and Investment in Emerging Economies in San Francisco, United States, in the context of the Global Climate Action Summit.
Developing countries and emerging economies face a significant investment gap in delivering the 2030 Development Agenda and Paris Agreement. Conservative cost forecasts estimate a gap in the range of USD 3.4-4.5 trillion per year between 2015 and 2030. Mobilizing investment and reducing costs to deploy clean energy infrastructure will be key to ensuring countries shift to low-carbon pathways, achieve basic development needs and poverty reduction goals, and remain competitive in global markets. To support this effort, the OECD will be undertaking the Clean Energy Finance and Investment (CEFI) Mobilization Program. Working in close co-operation with governments in each of the five proposed emerging economies (India, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Argentina, Colombia), the OECD will develop recommendations and support the implementation of measures to attract new sources of finance.
This official Global Climate Action Summit event provides an opportunity to introduce the program to the philanthropic community and other key stakeholders, and to start exploring linkages and areas for co-operation and progress, building on each other’s strengths and ideas. In addition to previewing the CEFI Mobilization Program, the event will share new OECD green finance and investment research and updates on ClimateWorks-supported emerging markets projects that are introducing new public finance models capable of catalyzing the deployment of low-carbon innovation.
