One Planet Summit

Location :
Boulogne-Billancourt, France

On 12 December 2017, the two year anniversary of the historic Paris Agreement, the Republic of France is hosting the One Planet Summit in Boulogne-Billancourt, France.

The Summit aims to accelerate the international mobilisation of climate finance through the following official objectives:

  • Take tangible and collective action: There are solutions, let’s roll them out globally and locally as swiftly as possible.
  • Innovate: Let’s be creative and resourceful in adapting our systems to the inevitable changes and step up our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Support one another: We are all affected by climate change, but some of us are more vulnerable than others. Let’s work together for the good of all and increase our support even more to the countries and peoples who need it most.

The event will include keynotes from Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Ma Jun, Special Advisor to the Governor, People’s Bank of China (PBoC) & Chairman, Green Finance Committee of China Society for Finance and Banking and Lionel Zinsou, Chairman, African Investors Network for Climate.

Panel discussions will focus on scaling up climate finance, greening finance for sustainable business, accelerating local and regional climate action, and strengthening policies for ecological and inclusive transition. Roundtable discussions will focus on climate-related risks and opportunities, climate finance and the "real economy", and the renewal of public-private cooperation.

Around 20 projects will be presented to showcase existing local and global climate solutions.

At the event, the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, the President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, will call on international leaders and committed citizens worldwide to take action to address the ecological emergency we all face. Major climate commitments are expected.

Side events organised by public, private and civil society stakeholders will take place in Paris on December 10, 11 and 13, to contribute to the mobilization and implementation of concrete solutions towards greater climate action.

The One Planet Summit was jointly organised with the United Nations and the World Bank Group, in partnership with the European Commission, the OECD and others.
