On 23 November 2022 (14:00 to 15:30 CET) Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Initiative (GO4SDGs) has hosted an event on Shifting the Fashion Narrative in cooperation with UNEPs textiles team and the Hot or Cool Institute.

In less than a decade, Black Friday has become a global event, incentivizing overconsumption and impacting the environment. The main question is, ‘How can consumer passion for a good fashion deal be harnessed for a sustainable future?’ With #BlackFriday around the corner, UNEP has summoned global experts and insiders to discuss why the fashion industry is drowning our planet with overconsumption and how we can rethink our sense of aspiration to live better and lighter. This event has highlighted that consumption change is where the most significant need and opportunity for sustainability lies. It showcased speakers from the forces that influence consumption and shape aspirations, underscoring areas for hope and defining where we should focus our efforts. How can consumer passion for a good fashion deal be harnessed for a sustainable future?
