The OECD and the Indonesian Ministry of Finance will be hosting a regional workshop relating to the OECD project “Towards Green Growth in Southeast Asia”. The workshop will take place on 12-13 June at the Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta.

In the context of the East Asia Climate Partnership (EACP) programme, the OECD has engaged in “Towards Green Growth in Southeast Asia”, a two-year (2012-2014) horizontal project whose overarching objective is to help promote green growth through strengthening the policy dialogue among the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the OECD. Drawing on the OECD’s expertise on green growth, the Towards Green Growth in Southeast Asia project builds on the OECD’s green growth strategy developed in 2011 (Towards Green Growth, full publication available here). This was followed by a more focused assessment of green growth in a development policy context (Putting Green Growth at the Heart of Development, summary for policymakers available here). Subsequently, the Towards Green Growth in Southeast Asia report is scheduled to be published by the end of 2014.

For more information about the horizontal project, please visit http://www.oecd.org/greengrowth/asia.htm.

The regional workshop has two main objectives: 1) facilitating knowledge exchange among country representatives and other participants about Southeast Asian countries’ green growth strategies; and 2) receiving feedback on the report’s main findings from policymakers and stakeholders in the region. Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Environment and Planning of ASEAN countries will participate in the workshop. Discussions during the workshop will evolve around the report’s four chapters:

1. The main economic, social and environmental trends of ASEAN economies;
2. How green growth strategies can be best incorporated into national development plans;
3. How to achieve sustainable management of natural resources;
4. How to manage the challenges arising from rapid urbanisation.
