UN Development Group (UNDG) Post-2015 Regional Strategic Consultation for Europe and Central Asia

TO
Location :
Bratislava, Slovakia

Theme: Doing Good to Do Better: Successful Corporate Strategies that Benefit Society

This regional consultation is organized jointly by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the UN Global Compact, as the two co-leads in the global consultations of the UN Development Group (UNDG) on ‘Engaging with the Private Sector,’ in close partnership with the Government of Slovakia. The event will convene under the theme ‘Doing Good to Do Better: Successful corporate strategies that benefit society,’ and will seek to explore how European industries can best contribute to the emerging global sustainable development agenda of the UN, both on a local and global scale.

Discussions will thus evolve around the question of how European industries can contribute positively to development, while strengthening their own geographical reach and market presence, along the following four themes: re-industrialization and regional development through innovation - research and development, and industrial competitiveness; moving towards environmental sustainability - cleaner production and green industries; game changers in development, peace and security - industrial technologies, information and communication technologies, and knowledge networks; and achieving food security and livelihoods for all - agro-industries, technologies and value chains.

The results of the discussions will be consolidated in a global report that will inform UN member states when formulating the post-2015 development agenda.

IISD (International Institute for Sustainable Development) RS will produce a summary report from this Consultation on Friday, 20 June 2014.
