On 8 February 2019 (10:00 AM - 11:30 AM CET), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is holding a promotional event entitled, "UNIDO as a global platform for the promotion of women's economic empowerment – Initiatives in Europe and Central Asia".
Evidence continues to grow, proving that empowering women in the economic and business spheres is a substantial source of prosperity and a guarantee for sustainable societal growth. Therefore, international organizations, national bodies and governments should foster policies to promote it at national and global levels. Women’s empowerment is deeply anchored in the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and as such, has become an essential part of UNIDO’s mandate and of a broad range of its projects.
The promotional event will showcase recent initiatives, projects and near-term plans of UNIDO in the field of women’s economic empowerment and entrepreneurship in Europe and Central Asia, in particular within the framework of the ongoing project “UNIDO as a platform to promote women economic empowerment and entrepreneurship” funded by the Government of the Russian Federation. Selected successful joint initiatives of UNIDO and the Russian Federation for the economic empowerment of women in industry will be presented.
The Director General and high-level representatives from the Russian Federation will open the event and deliver welcoming remarks. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange with the speakers.
The event will also serve to introduce the newly appointed UNIDO Goodwill Ambassador from the Russian Federation, Veronika Peshkova, who will share her personal success story, insights and vision on promoting women’s entrepreneurship and leadership.
