On 21 October - 1 November 2024, the UN will host the Sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16), which will convene global leaders and policymakers to tackle some of the most urgent biodiversity challenges facing the planet.
The conference will include three key meetings: COP16 as well as the Eleventh Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and the Fifth Meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing. There will also be a high-level ministerial segment.
Discussions will focus on advancing the monitoring framework, enhancing resource mobilization, and finalizing the multilateral mechanism for the fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the use of digital sequence information on genetic resources.
