Introduction 

The textile industry is one of the most resource-intensive industries in the world, significantly impacting the environment through high water consumption, pollution, and waste generation. Recognizing these challenges, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has developed the Sustainability and Circularity in the Textile Value Chain - A Global Roadmap. The roadmap outlines strategies and actions to promote sustainable practices, reduce environmental impact, and enhance circularity within the textile sector.

This webinar, organized with Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals (GO4SDGs) support and framed with the UNEP Textile Initiative, aims at translating the Global Roadmap into regional realities, bringing together different actors and showcasing projects currently been implemented in Asia and the Pacific.  

Webinar Objectives 

  1. Raise Awareness: Increase awareness and understanding of the UNEP global roadmap for textile sustainability and circularity among regional stakeholders. 
  2. Stakeholder Engagement: Foster collaboration and dialogue between government, private sector, NGOs, and academia to align efforts towards sustainable textile practices. 
  3. Regional Adaptation: Identify and discuss regional challenges and opportunities to adapt the global roadmap to local contexts. 
  4. Action Plan Development: Develop concrete action plans and initiatives for implementing the roadmap at the regional level.
