On 14 March 2023 (17:00-18:30 CET), the University College London will host a panel discussion on key issues pertaining to the role finance ministries play in driving climate action, focusing on the capabilities required to drive climate action.
Finance ministries are crucial to a successful whole-of-government approach to climate action. Yet, too few ministries have expressed clear-cut policy commitments or formulated strategies in relation to climate targets. The discussion will address the following questions: What are the key capabilities finance ministries need to successfully implement climate policies? What is their role within a whole-of-government approach to climate action and how can coordination be strengthened? Do they need an explicit mandate to act on climate change and if so, what should it look like?
