Workshop: Green jobs for social inclusion

Location :
Brussels, Belgium

Making cities greener and advancing social inclusion can go hand in hand. The green economy is an important source of new employment opportunities and a sector which has continued to grow in spite of the economic crisis.

On 20 October 2015, EUROCITIES will be hosting a workshop on ‘Green jobs for social inclusion’ to explore how to facilitate access of vulnerable groups to employment opportunities in the growing green economy.

Speakers will include:

  • Representatives from large European cities
  • Representatives from  EU institutions

The workshop will be based on EUROCITIES publication of the same title and our declaration on work and will endeavour to explore further:

  • The success factors of local programmes, which link vulnerable groups to green jobs
  • How cities and EU institutions can work together to further this approach

Assisting vulnerable people to gain the necessary skills and work experience to access jobs in the green sector is an investment with high potential return and a promising tool for social inclusion. The projects can also directly contribute to the achievement of our Europe 2020 climate, employment and social inclusion goals.

This workshop is aimed at policy makers from the EU, national, regional and local authorities, representatives of civil society, trade unions, business associations, and research and academia.
