Youth: A driving force for innovative lifestyles under 1.5 degrees

Organisation :
GO4SDGs

On 21 September (11am EDT), join the Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals (GO4SDGs) for the virtual event Youth: A driving force for innovative lifestyles under 1.5 degrees held on the margins of the 2021 YOUNGA Forum.

By 2050, the world’s population may reach a whopping 10 billion and with it more demand for food, fashion, travel, and housing, to fulfil needs and aspirations. In a world stretched thin for resources and under the threat of global biodiversity loss and climate change, our lifestyle decisions are putting the planet at risk. We need targeted action now, with innovative solutions for a sustainable living.

Sustainable living requires understanding how our lifestyle choices impact the world around us – including climate, biodiversity, pollution, and wellbeing.  It also requires systemic thinking and analysis on how the socio-technical system shapes and influence the choices we make.

The energy and leadership of innovative youth present some blueprints that can inform policy and programmatic interventions to scale and hasten the sustainability transition. This youth leadership and inputs will be a central part of the forthcoming conference on Stockholm+50.

This event is organised by the Global Opportunities for SDGs (GO4SDGs) as part of our goal to empowering youth for sustainable living.

During the event we will share with key insights and framework conditions from lead author of the 1.5-degree lifestyles report and will hear the perspective of 3 young advocates from around the world, who are acting, inspiring, and enabling young people to be part of the change. They are re-thinking how we live our lives; how do we consume and use our time; and what do we eat and waste. They will show inspiring stories, showing the power of youth to be a driving force for innovative lifestyles and to prepare the road towards Stockholm+50.
