In a rapidly changing climate, with unsustainable development and use of resources, the general outlook for the Australian environment is deteriorating.
This flagship report, published by the Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, reviews the country's state of the environment and related policy implementations. Comprised of an overview and 12 chapters, each with six sections covering key findings, outlook and impact, environment, management, pressures and resources. It focuses on the following areas: air quality, Antarctica, biodiversity, climate, coasts, extreme events, heritage, Indigenous, inland water, land, marine and urban.
The report found improving the state of the environment would require national leadership, integrated management across federal, state and territory systems, new forms of funding and improved monitoring and reporting.
