This document provides parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) with guidance on the establishment of inventories of hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). The national inventory of POPs provides information necessary for making decisions related to the management of POPs in accordance with the Stockholm Convention and complying with its obligations. Information obtained through an inventory of HBCD may assist in meeting these obligations. The inventory process is iterative. In establishing an inventory of HBCD for the first time, parties will also identify resources and technical capacities needed to further improve the accuracy of their inventory.
The target audience is the national focal points of the Stockholm Convention and those involved in the process for National Implementation Plan (NIP) review and update, in particular the task teams and coordinators responsible for establishing the inventory.
This document is presented in English; translation to other UN languages is available here.
As part of the GEF-funded and UNEP-led “Global Development, Review and Update of NIPs under the Stockholm Convention on POPs” project, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is executing Component 4, focused on disseminating information, managing knowledge and coordinating with the Stockholm Convention Secretariat to provide accessible, integrated tools and resources for all Parties.
