The Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is executing the Global environment Facility (GEF) funded global Coordination, Communication and Knowledge Management (CCKM) project under the “Implementing Sustainable Low and Non-Chemical Development in Small Island Developing States” (ISLANDS) Programme, and the global child project of Financing Agrochemical Reduction and Management (FARM) programme.
ISLANDS is a five-year programme composed of six child projects and working in 33 Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Atlantic, Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Pacific regions to improve chemicals and waste management. There it aims to prevent the build-up of materials and chemicals in the environment that contain harmful chemicals, and to manage and dispose of existing harmful chemicals and materials. The programme addresses eight key thematic areas, namely end-of-life vehicles (ELV), e-waste, gender, highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs), mercury, plastics, toxic chemicals, and used oil.
FARM aims to strengthen the sound management of agricultural chemicals and their waste, through better control, and reduction and / or elimination. To achieve this aim, the overall objective of the programme is to generate a framework of knowledge and tools for financing sustainable agriculture practices, and that will address incentivizing financing through adjustments to key policies, regulations, standards, norms, and market innovations. The FARM programme is being implemented by UNEP with GGKP as an executing agency for the Global Child Project. There are seven Child Projects within the programme in three regions, Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America, for which the executing agencies are UNEP/Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Development Programmed (UNDP) and UNIDO.
The role of the two Global Child Projects is to coordinate the efforts of the child projects, promote knowledge generation and sharing, and lead engagement with international stakeholders.
A consultant is sought to support the GGKP in the execution of the ISLANDS CCKM project and FARM global Child project, and specifically to support communications, advocacy and outreach activities, maintain digital channels related to ISLANDS and FARM (websites and social media) and produce content for these channels. This work will also include related support to core GGKP activities.
Specific tasks and responsibilities
The specific tasks related to this assignment will be under the supervision of the GGKP ISLANDS and FARM Communications Specialist, and ISLANDS and FARM Project Managers, and in coordination with the GGKP communications team, and will include:
- Communications and advocacy support
- Providing support to Communications and Outreach Specialist on updating Communications Plans for FARM and ISLANDS
- Monitoring and updating FARM and ISLANDS communications templates and brand kits on Canva, SharePoint and other relevant resources.
- Updating databank of videos and photos produced by ISLANDS and FARM global and regional or national projects.
- Providing support to Communications and Outreach Specialist on delivering campaigns, events and communication training, and other activities in accordance with FARM and ISLANDS global communications plans.
- Providing support to GGKP digital channels and infrastructure used by the ISLANDS and FARM projects.
- Supporting the Communication and Outreach Specialist in liaising with, collecting inputs from and interviewing the communication focal points of the child projects.
- Undertaking desk research and supporting the Communication and Outreach Specialist in identifying, selecting and liaising with potential podcast hosts and/or media for the development of a large audience communication.
- Digital channels management and growth
- Developing and implementing editorial plans for FARM and ISLANDS digital channels, based on the FARM and ISLANDS global communications plans. This includes planning and updating content for: ISLANDS and FARM websites; ISLANDS and FARM groups on the Green Forum; ISLANDS and FARM LinkedIn; and other channels that may be used or created under the programmes’ communications strategies.
- Developing and implementing editorial plans for FARM and ISLANDS digital channels, based on the FARM and ISLANDS global communications plans. This includes planning and updating content for: ISLANDS and FARM websites; ISLANDS and FARM groups on the Green Forum; ISLANDS and FARM LinkedIn; and other channels that may be used or created under the programmes’ communications strategies.
- Communications assets production
- Developing communications assets for digital channels (social media posts, website updates, images, videos) according to the content plan to grow the channels audience and engagement.
- Providing support to Communications and Outreach specialist on production other communications materials.
- Providing support to Communications and Outreach specialist on gathering information for FARM and ISLANDS annual reports.
- Supporting the FARM and ISLANDS Knowledge Management and Research Specialists the development of knowledge products.
Qualifications
- Advanced University degree (master's or equivalent) in communications, media or closely related area is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in the field of communications, digital content creation and social media is required.
- Experience of working on topics related to sustainable development, private sector engagement, chemicals and waste, and/or environment is required.
- Knowledge and experience of behavior change/economics, and related advocacy and campaigns is desirable.
- Experience of working on specific topics related to POPs and other toxic chemicals, mercury, highly hazardous pesticides, e-waste, end-of-life vehicles, plastics and used oil is desirable.
- Excellent ability to independently generate clear and concise content is required.
- Very good Microsoft Office skills are required.
- Skills with design tools, for example Canva, Adobe InDesign, etc., is desirable.
- Video editing skills is desirable.
- Proven ability to work in a multitasking environment is required.
- Experience of working in an international and intergovernmental organization is desirable.
