Kiribati Integrated Energy Roadmap: 2017-2025 (KIER) comprises a policy framework with specific targets and a set of priority actions, with associated cost estimates and specific timelines. The KIER presents a packaged plan of institutional, policy, regulatory, technical, financial and capacity-building actions that, collectively, will enable the Government of Kiribati to achieve its energy objectives, in line with the Kiribati Development Plan 2016-2019.
The KIER provides a comprehensive, holistic overview of the Kiribati energy sector, including:
- Renewable energy options for power generation (e.g. solar, wind, bioenergy, ocean);
- Energy efficiency in electricity supply, including supply side management (SSM);
- Energy efficiency in electricity consumption, including demand-side management (DSM);
- Supply of petroleum products;
- Bioenergy, including solid bioenergy, liquid biofuels and biogas;
- Renewable energy for transport (e.g. road and sea);
- Energy efficiency and conservation for transport (e.g. road and sea);
- Renewable energy-powered seawater desalination; and
- Cleaner cooking fuels and more efficient cooking technologies.
