Updated Vanuatu National Energy Road Map 2016-2030

The Updated Vanuatu National Energy Road Map 2016-2030 is the key source of current information on Vanuatu’s energy sector policies, plans, and priorities in the future.

Vanuatu’s National Energy Road Map (NERM) was first endorsed in 2013. The overall vision of the 2013 version of the National Energy Road Map (NERM) is to energise Vanuatu’s growth and development through the provision of secure, affordable, widely accessible, high quality, clean energy services for an educated, healthy, and wealthy nation. At that time, the NERM identified five priorities for the energy sector: access, petroleum supply, affordability, energy security, and climate change.

Since the NERM was launched, Vanuatu’s economy and energy sector have continued to develop. This updated document reflects these developments, but still retaining the vision and direction of the 2013 version of the NERM, and incorporating its critical elements.

This updated NERM refreshes and revises the following aspects of the NERM:
  • Priorities and objectives: Re-frames the NERM priorities to reflect desired outcomes for Vanuatu’s energy sector and to incorporate new areas of emphasis
  • Progress: Provides an update on how well Vanuatu is meeting the targets (and what progress might look like by 2020 and 2030)
  • Targets: Sets 2030 targets for targets that previously only had targets for 2015 and 2020, and adds new targets to help catalyse faster progress in particular areas
  • Implementation Plan: Refines and adds actions needed to achieve the updated targets and objectives.
