Project consultant – Behavioural insights for better waste management
The Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) is seeking a qualified Consultant to support the project “Behavioural insights for better waste management.” This initiative, supported by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme International Environmental Technology Centre (UNEP-IETC), explores the relationship between social behaviour and waste management practices to identify key factors influencing recyclability and waste disposal habits.
Role Overview: The selected consultant will lead data analysis and literature research and provide technical and operational support for a project workshop in Osaka planned for September 2026.
Primary responsibilities will include data analysis, literature research, technical reporting and support to event organization.
Key Details:
Duration: 5 Months (June – October 2026)
Level of Effort: Part-time 60% (equivalent to 3 working months)
Location: Remote, with working hours adapted to Japan
Expected outputs:
1. Comparative report analysing the Global Waste Management Outlook and World Risk Poll datasets
2. Contextual analytical report integrating additional research on external literature related to the project’s scope
3. Activity report describing key outcomes from the project workshop
Required Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Data Science, Economics, Behavioural Sociology, Public Policy, or a related field (or a Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience).
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in international cooperation or in the environmental field. Experience on waste management or social behaviour is preferred.
Specific skills: strong knowledge on data science and statistical analysis, proven track record in project implementation and technical reporting, and experience with international events is highly desirable. Experience with UNEP or international cooperation fora is an asset.
Special Notice:
The workload for this position is variable; while the average effort is approximately 60%, it is expected to increase significantly leading up to and during the September workshop.
