Call for papers: Workshop on Green Economy in the Gulf Region

The Gulf Research Center has announced a call for papers for a Workshop on Green Economy in the Gulf Region taking place at the 5th Gulf Research Meeting on 25-28 August 2014 at the University of Cambridge, UK.

The workshop offers a forum for presenting original and high-quality research on the different aspects of the green economy approach in the Gulf, both examining current developments and plans as well as looking at the likely future course. The scope of the workshop includes various stages of policy and implementation, including formulation, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The workshop welcomes papers examining individual country case studies, comparative studies, and regional-level studies. Studies examining specific green sectors, such as energy, industry, transport, waste, agriculture and tourism, and thematic issues related to green economy, such as renewable energy, water, climate change and the politics of green economy, will also be examined. The workshop is also interested in future-oriented studies that focus on policies and scenarios for a green economy in the GCC countries and their effects on sustainable development.

Scholars and practitioners from all over the world are invited to submit paper proposals and participate in this workshop. Papers presented to the workshop may cover country, comparative, regional or thematic studies. The workshop welcomes papers on all countries of the Gulf region, as well as papers from other countries in the MENA region, or outside, that are of relevance or can provide lessons for the Gulf. In addition to scholars, the workshop also seeks to encourage the participation of practitioners, civil society experts, and decision makers from the countries of the Gulf.

Plans exist to publish selected papers from the workshop in a peer-reviewed, edited volume.

Kindly note that authors selected to present their papers are eligible for a travel grant to Cambridge.
