The African Development Bank Group meeting, Enhancing Resilience in African Economies: Macro-Economic Policy Responses to COVID-19 Pandemic in Africa, will take place on 29 April 2020 from 14.00 to 18.00 GMT.

The coronavirus is having an unprecedented impact on global, regional and national health systems, economies and societies on a whole, with the public and private sectors, local communities and individuals struggling to respond to the pandemic. As countries continue to focus on flattening the curve of the disease and search for a vaccine and other therapeutic measures, many countries, particularly in Africa, will need more technical and financial support to fight the virus.

The World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as G20 countries have pledged support to help Africa during this crisis, and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has identified up to $10 billion in resources that can be made available in 2020. But more help will be needed.

Responding to the call, the AfDB’s African Development Institute (ADI) is establishing a Global Community of Practice (G-CoP), an e-platform that will feature a virtual interactive collaborative environment for certified global experts and anchor institutions to provide policy advice, technical assistance and training to the bank’s regional member countries.

To contribute to the platform, participants are invited to join the ADI’s inaugural webinar – Enhancing Resilience in African Economies: Macro-Economic Policy Responses to COVID-19 Pandemic in Africa – which will take place on Wednesday, 29 April 2020 from 14.00 to 18.00 GMT.

The webinar is designed to synthesize knowledge and experiences from around the world and provide context-specific guidance on policy options available to developing countries, with a focus on Africa. It will bring together leading experts and practitioners to brainstorm on the policy options available to regional member countries. The goal of the session will be a policy brief for dissemination to AfDB members, partners and stakeholders to inform policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa.

Participation in the webinar is by invitation only. To confirm your participation, contact: [email protected], and cc: [email protected].
