The GGKP research programme is organized around a number of collaborative research committees, established on priority topics identified as being crucial in a green economy transition but where knowledge and data are lacking. The research committees are tasked with assessing the state of knowledge, identifying and prioritizing knowledge gaps, and promoting a broader research agenda to address the identified gaps.

A consultant is sought to provide support to the GGKP research programme and research committees.  

Functional Responsibilities

The objective of the consultancy is to assist the Green Growth Knowledge Platform in the delivery of its research programme, including:

  • Supporting the nomination and selection of co-chairs and research committee members, including obtaining GGKP Steering Committee approval for the selections;
  • Ensuring that key milestones and deadlines are met by the research committees;
  • Preparing background materials and meeting summaries as needed by the research committee co-chairs;
  • Working with the research committee co-chairs to organize committee calls and meetings as required;
  • Supporting the commission of research based on the recommendations of the research committees;
  • Identifying possible research funding institutions and facilitating their engagement with research committees.
  • Producing high-quality and timely thought pieces and syntheses of major green growth research for the GGKP web platform and for dissemination via the GGKP newsletter;
  • Managing the research committee sections of the GGKP web platform and ensuring these sections are comprehensive and up to date; and assisting in other operational tasks as necessary.
  • Monitoring and Progress Controls
  • (Clear description of measurable outputs, milestones, key performance indicators and/or reporting requirements which will enable performance monitoring)
  • Successfully convening an in-person workshop of the GGKP Trade and Competitiveness research committee, including preparing background documents and final workshop report by 30 November 2016;
  • Successfully convening an in-person workshop of the GGKP Law and Green Growth research committee, including preparing background documents and final workshop report by 15 December 2016; and
  • Successfully launching a new GGKP research committee on “resilient infrastructure” by 31 December 2016.

SKILLS:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
  • Experience in empirical research, data analysis, drafting evidence-based reports and policy materials and superior writing and editing abilities are required.

Education

Master’s degree in economics, environment, public policy, or related field is required.

Experience

Two years of accumulated relevant work experience in an international organisation or public institution is required.

Languages

Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
