The International Trade Centre (ITC) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) are calling for expressions of interest to contribute to an event focused on the theme of "Fostering the engagement of the agri-food sector in resilience to climate change".
The event will address the climate resilience of the agri-food sector through three thematic Plenary Sessions and accompanying Mini Workshops and Open Labs:
- Assessing climate risks in the agri-food sector and preparing adaptation strategies
- Implementing adaptation strategies, with a focus on SMEs, in the agri-food sector through accessing finance, technology, Public-Private Partnerships and capacity building
- Designing policies and incentives for private sector investment in adaptation, including for formulating and implementing National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement
The organizers invite two types of contributions, both 1.5 hours, up to 30 participants:
1. Mini workshops
The mini workshops are an opportunity for organizations to convene different stakeholders to present experiences and evidence on issues relating to themes covered under one of the three thematic Plenaries. The workshops can take a practical, technical, project or business orientated focus. Each workshop will produce a short summary as feedback to the Plenary.
2. Open labs
The open labs are designed as a challenge-oriented brainstorming session, in which participants can work actively and in small groups towards finding new approaches for key challenges relating to one of the three Plenary themes. As with the Mini Workshops, the results will feed back into the Plenary.
Contributions should:
- Address the pressing issues, gaps and evidence for strategies and policies on adaptation in the agri-food sector
- Showcase best practices, lessons learnt and examples of effective collaboration.
- Facilitate learning, collaboration and partnerships for future initiatives.
Contributions are welcome from across the spectrum of stakeholders engaged in adaptation activities ranging from national and sub-national policy makers, business, civil society, academia, technical experts, NGOs, community organizations and representatives from the media.
Contributions are invited to be submitted by email. Submission will be accepted up to 15th August.
