"We need to bring the insights of behavioural economics to green growth!"  said Francisco Alpizar from EfD and a Behavioural Insights Research Committee Member.

Today in Geneva, the GGKP Behavioural Insights Research Committee gathered for it’s inaugural meeting at the International Environment House, home of the GGKP Secretariat. This committee will focus on key knowledge gaps in the area of behavioural insights research in order to support collaborative research to inform the design of robust policies and interventions for mobilising pro green growth behaviour in society.

This committee is part of the GGKP’s unique research program that brings together experts from the world’s leading intergovernmental organisations, think tanks, and research institutions to collectively identify and address knowledge gaps in green growth theory and practice.

The Behavioural Insights Research Committee is made up of 16 experts from 15 different organisations and is co-chaired by Benjamin Mattaondo Banda from UNECA and Sara Castro from UNEP. The launch meeting for the research committee was attended by 15 behavioural insights experts.

Today, the field of Behavioural Insights combines disciplines of psychology, marketing, economics and other sciences to analyse and model human choices. These behavioural insights can now be applied to ensure that policies and programmes can make he demand-side charges needed for the SDGs and green growth.” said co-chair Sara Castro.

This committee will work to build a road map for addressing priority knowledge gaps. Their collective efforts are the GGKP’s first step in catalysing a broader exploration of behavioural insights and green growth.
