By 2050, the world’s population is expected to reach 10 billion. This means more demand for food and housing as well as travel and fashion. Many will be unable to meet their basic needs. In a world stretched thin on resources and under the threat of global biodiversity loss and climate change, our lifestyles decisions are putting the planet at risk.

Worldwide, young people and youth groups, driven by a desire to secure a better future, are demanding actions for a better society. Through emerging initiatives, they are changing their lifestyles, nudging governments towards better policies and accelerating the momentum towards a transition to sustainability.

Empowering youth to become future leaders and innovators of sustainable development and lifestyles is one of the goals of the Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals (GO4SDGs). To achieve this, the Sustainable Lifestyles Academy for Youth is providing training to youth, influencers and other relevant partners engaged in driving the transition to sustainable lifestyles.

The academy’s Technical Advisory Group, launched today, is comprised of experts from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and West Asia who are engaged in promoting and inspiring behaviour change to address global sustainability challenges.

The GO4SDGs initiative has teamed up with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Hot or Cool Institute to support youth leaders, youth networks and universities to help design potential sustainable lifestyles solutions. The development of the academy’s learning module will be supported by the advisory group.
