Take part in the Global Gender Survey of the Wind Industry

Knowledge news

Women have traditionally been underrepresented in the energy sector, but what about in the wind industry? To find out, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) is launching a Global Gender Survey of the Wind Industry to provide new insights on female employment in the industry as well as the broader renewable energy sector.

The survey is being conducted between the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Women in Wind Global Leadership Program, which is co-organized by GWEC and the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET).

Calls for the survey follow an IRENA report – Renewable Energy: A Gender Perspective – which found that 32% of the renewable energy workforce is comprised of women. Data collected in the new survey will help illuminate women's presence across the full value chain of the wind sector, which can help policymakers and corporate leaders to make informed decisions about increasing diversity and inclusion in the wind sector.

Participation in the survey is entirely voluntary and is open to all individuals and organizations working in the wind energy sector. The findings aims to strengthen and deepen knowledge of issues relating to women's employment, improve understanding of workplace opportunities, challenges and policy solutions in renewable energy, and highlight qualitative aspects of the global wind energy workforce.

The information provided in response to the survey will be processed and aggregated with information provided by other respondents for the purpose of the development of an IRENA, GWEC and GWNET joint publication: Wind Energy: A Gender Perspective.

To help learn more about the role and representation of women in the wind industry, please complete the survey by 15 November 2019.
