The Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT) is an ambitious public-private partnership initiative launched in 2010 with the goal of transforming Tanzania's agricultural sector. It focuses on improving productivity, food security, and economic growth within the southern region of the country by promoting investments in agriculture and related infrastructure. SAGCOT's efforts include bringing 350,000 hectares of land into profitable production, transitioning 100,000 small-scale farmers into commercial farming, and creating 420,000 new jobs by 2030. The initiative also aims to lift 20 million people out of poverty and generate significant revenue from farming activities. SAGCOT has received substantial support from both the Tanzanian government and international partners, making it a cornerstone of Tanzania's strategy to become a major player in global agriculture.
