Alice Akinyi Kaudia is the first former Environment Secretary for the government of Kenya at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, a position she held from 2008 until 2018. She is now working as Executive Director of Ecoentrepreneurs Ltd., which she also co-founded. Ecoentrepreneurs Ltd. provides expert guidance on subjects like agribusiness driven ecosystems restoration and green growth. Its work enables the improvement of livelihoods and poverty eradication; green growth based entrepreneurship for sustainable development; re-skilling retired women for environmental careers; and the intensive reduction of short-lived climate pollutants.
Her previous engagements include: Technical Advisor on Forestry Curriculum Development and community-based natural resources management (Zambia); Regional Director of the IUCN - East Africa Regional Office; Assistant Director at the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI); Associate Research Officer at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) and Assistant Programme Officer at the African Academy of Sciences.
Her global experience in environment and natural resources management is derived from board membership to World Resources Forum; Co-Chair of Global Green Growth Knowledge Platform; Global Co-Chair of Climate and Clean Air Coalition, and member of Steering committee of the International Resources Panel. In 2018, Dr Kaudia established a firm with a global outreach and provides professional consultancy services in areas of design and implementation technical training in climate change response actions, circular economy, Green growth, organic agribusiness value chains and environment policies and legislation.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Nairobi, an MBA in Global Business Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship from Tangaza University College, Kenya and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Forestry, Extension and Development from the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. She continues to serve as associate Lecturer and postgraduate research supervisor at the Institute of Climate Change and Adaption ( University of Nairobi) and Tangaza University College.
