Andrea Bassi is a project leader and researcher with over 15 years of experience working with governments and international organizations primarily on (1) energy and climate policy, (2) natural resource utilization, (3) disaster resilience planning and response strategies and (4) sustainable development national -and regional- plans.
Researcher, trainer, and facilitator, also a lecturer at several universities across continents and with work experience in over 30 countries, Andrea is the lead author of integrated and sectoral studies presented to several national leaders and Ministers, and published in leading peer-reviewed journals and reports by leading international organizations. In 2014 Andrea published a book titled Tackling Complexity with Prof. Gilbert Probst, University of Geneva and World Economic Forum.
Andrea has specific expertise in green economy strategies and scenarios, climate mitigation and adaptation, industrial competitiveness and more generally in sustainable development. Relevant projects include, among many others, the lead authorship of the modeling chapter of UNEP’s Green Economy Report, the completion of several countries and regional assessments for UNEP, GIZ, WWF and IRENA, as well as manuals and guidance documents on the use of indicators and models for green economy analyses. Andrea has also led the preparation of several climate mitigations and adaptation chapters of National Communications to the UNFCCC and Human Development Reports at the country level.
Andrea is the founder and CEO of KnowlEdge Srl. He is also an Extraordinary Associate Professor of System Dynamics Modelling at Stellenbosch University and an Associate at the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD). His earlier experience includes Director of Project Development and Modeling at Millennium Institute, a visiting researcher at the Danish National Environmental Research Institute and Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Andrea holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in System Dynamics from the University of Bergen in Norway, a M.Sc. in Business and Economics from LIUC in Italy, and a postgraduate certificate in modeling the environment from the Universitad Politecnica de Catalunia in Spain.
