Carlos Chávez is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the Universidad de Concepción, Chile. He is also the Director of the Research Nucleus in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, an Environment for Development (EfD) center supported by the Millenium Science Initiative of the Chilean Government at the Universidad de Concepción. He holds a Ph.D. (2000) in Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His research and teaching is focused on the design and evaluation of environmental policy and natural resource management. He has written on the problems of enforcing environmental and natural resource policies in the developed and developing world. He currently serves as Associate Editor of the Journal Environment and Development Economics.
