Elena Jardan is working at WHO in the Chemicals safety and health unit, responsible for lead-related projects.
Prior to being appointed in the WHO HQ, she served as an Adviser to the Prime-Minister and Minister of health on the social and public health policies. Before joining the national government, she coordinated the department on health protection within MoH and developed the strategies for the national programs on establishing the surveillance health system. She served as a member of the Governing Board of the National Public Health Agency and created a professional association of hygienists, as well as chaired the Sub-regional Network for Schools on Public Health.
She studied General Medicine and Public Health in the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Republic of Moldova, as well as management in Primary Health Care at the School of Public Health Management within the same institution. She taught health promotion, hygiene and general epidemiology in the College of Medicine for nurses.
Throughout her career, she contributed to the development of social and health policies at national and regional levels, particularly in the areas of public health and the environment, tuberculosis, primary health care and access to medicines. She has developed materials to support government decision-making, e.g. on chemicals regulation (including health and economic impacts), workers’ health, and implementation of international agreements on Chemicals. She has organized several International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week campaigns.
She holds doctoral and Master of Science degrees.
