
Dr. Hans-Jörn Weddige currently coordinates all energy, environmental and climate policy activities at thyssenkrupp, a German multinational that focuses on industrial engineering and steel production. He is involved in a number of technology and sustainability projects at his company, including Carbon2Chem, oxyfuel cement making and alkaline water electrolysis. Prior to his position as Group Coordinator, Dr. Weddige was Vice-President for Environment and Energy at thyssenkrupp, where he focused on improving environmental and energy control systems and on German and European regulatory affairs. Before moving to corporate headquarters, he was Head of Climate Policies for the company’s steel subsidiary. He also held a number of positions with the World Steel Association.
Dr. Weddige is on the advisory board of a German SME that is active in zinc recycling and is a member of the Industrial Advisory Panel in the Department for Materials at the University of Oxford. He is also Vice-Chair of the Energy and Climate Committee at the Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA) and is Chair of the BIAC Environment and Energy Committee at the OECD, as well as represents the business community in one of the UNFCCC’s Technology Executive groups.
Dr. Weddige has a PhD in Ferrous Metallurgy from the German Technical University and Mining Academy and an MA in Metallurgy, Economics and Management.
