Hussein M. Abaza

Hussein Abaza is the Director of the Association for Environmental and Community Development (ACED), the Centre for Sustainable Development Solutions (CSDS), he also is a Counselor for the State Minister of the Environment.
Hussein received a B.A in Economics from the American University in Cairo (1973), and M.Phil. in Urban Housing Planning from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom (1981). Currently involved in research on Sustainable Development at the Erasmus University, the Netherlands. Hussein joined the United Nations Environment Programme in 1982, and functioned in different capacities, including Chief of the UNEP Economics and Trade Branch. Hussein is currently a member of the Egyptian Council for the Environmental Sciences, Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, member of the Committee on the Environment, the Egyptian of Higher Council for Culture, and a member of the Egyptian Think Tank for the preparation of a Solid Waste Management Strategy and Action Programme for Egypt, member of the Green Economy Working Group of the Ministry of Planning to prepare input for the Sustainable Development Strategy for Egypt, member of the Committee of Natural Resource Conservation of the Scientific Academy of Research.
Abaza worked as the Chief Executive Officer, of a United Nations Physical and Urban Planning project in Saudi Arabia (1973-1979), Managing Director of the Center of Planning and Architecture in Cairo, Egypt (1980), and Manager of the Islamic Investment Company, Central and Northern Region, Saudi Arabia (1981).
