Kris Bachus is a research manager of climate and sustainability at the HIVA Research Institute of the University of Leuven. He holds a PhD in social science and a master’s degree in Economics. Since 1998, he has played a leading role in the environmental research group of HIVA. Throughout the years, he has conducted and coordinated many research projects, most of which are policy oriented, commissioned by EU, Belgian federal or Flemish government agencies. While waste policies made up a significant proportion of Kris’ studies in his early career, the focus has shifted to circular economy in recent years. Kris is the promoter of the research line ‘employment and circular economy’ of the Flemish Policy Research Centre for Circular Economy. Kris furthermore has expertise in environmental taxation, sustainability transitions, climate finance, environmental policy evaluation and climate policy.
